Childlike

I work at the Children’s ministry at my church, and I greatly enjoy it. Granted some kids are a pain, and having to run around all night to watch them is tiring, but I still have fun working there. (Did i mention I don’t get paid for any of it?)

It’s an ideal job for me. First, we all still watch Pokemon. Second, we all still think that “potty humor” is funny, and third, WE GET FREE SNACKS!!

Aside from all that, there are other, more mature, reasons why i love working there.

It’s not everyday that you’re looked upon as some “super cool” or “wickedly awesome” kind of guy. But to the kids, that’s exactly what we are. We are the teenagers that will actually play with them, while all the other teenagers choose to go text. We are the teenagers are willing to do stupid things, like having chocolate pudding shoved in our faces, just to makes them laugh, while other teenagers won’t even spend time with them. That to them makes us “super cool and wickedly awesome” teenagers.

On top of that, I lead worship for the kids. Now, leading worship for the kid’s isn’t like leading worship for the adults. When the kid’s worship, it really is more about them seeing that God can be fun. So, likewise, a lot of the songs are VERY fun to play (very simple too). For instance, tonight my band and I lead them in a song called “Selfishy”. It’s about a fish who is selfish (go figure). And next we did a song about how awesome it is to have a best friend (my best friend is also in the band with me, so it was ironic in a not really sort of way.)

My point is, not only am I “wickedly awesome” in their eye’s, but i’m like a rockstar! You can’t beat the feeling of seeing of almost two hundred kids jumping up and down while you jam. It’s amazing.

Working with kid’s is something i could seriously see myself doing as a job. After all, who doesn’t like working with people who watch Pokemon as much as you do?
